Do you remember Cornelius, the rooster on the front of the Kellogg cereal box? He was a Welsummer!

    The Welsummer is a large dual-purpose breed originating in the Netherlands. They are good foragers and active birds, happy to be outdoors.  We find them to be curious, docile, friendly, chatty and sweet.

    Welsummers are red partridge in color and are truly beautiful birds. They can be quite easy to sex as chicks. Hens rarely go broody and are excellent layers of large, gorgeous, speckled terra cotta eggs. The shade and amount of speckles can vary and we are working towards heavy speckling in our flock.

    We love our Welsummers for their easygoing, gentle and independent natures…and of course those speckles – a must have for our rainbow egg basket!
