Croad Langshan

Our gentle giants, Croad Langshan are docile, friendly, peaceful birds that get along with everyone. Langshans do require space…they are large birds with roosters weighing over 9 lbs and hens 7 ½! Hens lay a large number of eggs and are good sitters who make excellent mamas. We think the chicks look like little penguins and there is nothing cuter than seeing them follow their mama around in the yard!

Let’s chat about egg color: Langshan eggs are often misrepresented as plum. This is because their tan egg can have a pink or purple bloom to it…and as any bloom goes, it can vary from egg to egg and bird to bird. We are fortunate to have some lovely pink blooms in our flock and choose these to hatch for future generations.

Langshan are most commonly seen in black but can also be found in blue and white. We have both black and white in our original flock. In 2024 we added a blue rooster that we hatched here from a new line, so offspring will be black, blue or white depending on the parents.

Croad Langshan are listed as threatened on the Livestock Conservancy List, another important reason for us to keep them in our yard!
